Irvine Bay Regeneration Company and North Ayrshire Council are pleased to announce the first phase of the £2.5million project to upgrade and improve Kilwinning Main Street is now underway. The first part of this joint initiative will see a lighting upgrade in the Main Street from Howgate to Church Street.

The investment in this phase of work is £75,000 and a total of 37 lights will upgraded over a 12 week period by the company working on the project, Centre Great Ltd. The aim of this upgrade is to assist the existing CCTV network in encouraging a greater sense of safety in the village centre and improving visibility for those on the Main Street after dark.

Patrick Wiggins, chief executive of Irvine Bay Regeneration Company said: “We are really pleased to be making a start to the plans for improvements in Kilwinning. We have been through a long and rewarding consultation process and it’s fantastic to see the plans coming to fruition. We are looking forward to more improvements being made over the months ahead and we hope the people of Kilwinning will be pleased with the results.”

The aim of the £2.5million project in Kilwinning is to create an attractive location for the residents of the village to live and work, and for people to visit. Irvine Bay Regeneration Company and North Ayrshire Council are working towards creating a town centre ‘hub’ with increased shopping, office spaces, improved public realm works and the creation of commercial spaces. Making more of the town’s excellent transport links is also on the agenda, as is improving open spaces through landscaping.
