Tender for Trinity Church issued

Trinty Church, Irvine

Trinity Church redevelopment

Phase 2: Preservation and protection works

Submission of pre-qualification questionnaire

Introduction

Trinity Church is a landmark A-listed building that occupies a prominent site within Irvine town centre. The building has over many years fallen into a severe state of disrepair, now Irvine Bay Regeneration Company, in partnership with North Ayrshire Council and Trinity Church Trust, is seeking to appoint a main contractor to undertake an initial piece of work to protect, preserve and secure the building as a future development opportunity.

Background

Trinity Church is situated at the west entrance to the Rivergate shopping centre, between Bridgegate and Kirkgate. The building, built for the United Presbyterian Church between 1863 and 1869, is ‘A’ listed as being of Architectural and Historical Importance and lies within the town’s conservation area. The building has been vacant for approximately 10 years and it is now derelict and in a poor state of repair. The proposed work will focus upon the following key areas:

• Repair and recovering of church roof
• Improved perimeter fencing and entrances
• Repair/replacement of main flooring areas
• Strip out and capping of toilet/kitchen services

It should be noted that this work relates to the main church building, church hall and associated facilities. No specific work is proposed in relation to the church spire.

An initial removal of a pigeon infestation and subsequent clean-up of the building (phase 1 of the redevelopment works) is currently underway and will be completed in April 2009.
