Run-away fun a big success at Irvine Bay

Irvine Bay fun run is run-away success with over 200 runners crossing the finishing line

Irvine Bay Regeneration Company was delighted to support Irvine Bay’s first ever fun run – with more than 120 people turning out on Sunday 16 August.

The family-friendly event offered a lively and welcoming atmosphere and attracted walkers and runner of all levels. Supporters turned out to encourage participants along the way, with refreshments, t-shirts and medals for everyone crossing the finishing line.

The run was organised by local running-enthusiast, Jim Montgomerie, also known as The Running Kilt. Jim said: “I’ve seen so many people out running in the area which inspired me to organise the event I was really thrilled to see so many runners at this first ever Irvine Bay fun run, and making it a huge success. I’m already looking forward to making this an annual event, placing Irvine Bay firmly on the running event map.”

Jim began running marathons in 2003 in New York and has since then taken part in a wide range of high profile runs in London, Brazil, the North Pole, at the Great Wall of China and even a 95-mile run across the Sahara Desert. He is currently working hard to become a member of the prestigious Grand Slam Club, an exclusive club for runners who have completed a marathon or ultra marathon in all of the continents.

Kirsty Innes, Marketing Manager, Irvine Bay Regeneration Company, who also took part in the run, said: “We were delighted to support Jim in this fantastic event. Events such as this are really great for the local area, encouraging community spirit and highlighting what a great place Irvine Bay is to live, work and visit. Thanks to all the supporters who turned out to encourage us along the way!
