Irvine Harbour public consultation a success

Public exhibition prior to planning application being submitted in October 2009

Award winning property company Urban Splash in partnership with Irvine Bay Regeneration Company held a public consultation this weekend, giving people the chance to see final plans for the redevelopment of Irvine Harbour.

The event, which was held on Friday and Saturday at the Ship Inn, Irvine was attended by almost 200 people who were able to view detailed architects’ drawings and models of the proposed scheme. Attendees were also given feedback cards and their written comments will be supplied with the planning application.

Urban Splash associate director Patrick Sheridan, who is overseeing the project, said: “The event was a real success, with the majority of people supporting our plans. We are really grateful to the people of Irvine for taking the time to give their comments and feedback, which has certainly helped shape this scheme.

“We now look forward to working on the masterplan and submitting an application in the coming months.”

The planned scheme will transform the waterfront, creating up to 350 homes, new public spaces, an improved quayside space, shops, offices and a hotel, inspired by the traditional influences of Scottish harbour towns.

Omar Elmi, Commercial Director from Irvine Bay Regeneration Company: “From the feedback received this weekend it appears that there is a lot of public support for this scheme, which will undoubtedly give Irvine the sustainable transformation it needs.”

A podcast on the public exhibition and consultation is available here.
