Irvine Bay serves an ace for Saltcoats

Budding tennis stars in Saltcoats are to benefit from stunning new all-weather courts – thanks to Irvine Bay Regeneration Company, SportScotland and the fund-raising efforts of local supporters.

The plan to completely refurbish Glebe tennis courts in the town were also backed by Judy Murray, leading tennis coach and mother of top world star Andy Murray.

The regeneration company had pledged £50,000 to help meet the cost, provided the community could raise the other £30,000-plus required.

Fund-raisers got to work, and an application to SportScotland has been successful and the project will now go ahead, providing a terrific facility for local children and adults. It is hoped the work will be completed in time for the summer holidays.

Patrick Wiggins, Chief Executive of Irvine Bay Regeneration Company, said: “We are delighted to support this project which will help promote healthy living and help to revitalise the community. It is fantastic that local people have been well-enough organised to launch such a successful fund-raising campaign, and they are to be congratulated.”

Alison Farrer, Chair of the Glebe Association, added: “The Glebe Tennis Association was delighted to get this support from the regeneration company, SportScotland and from Judy. We can now see local people enjoy a terrific free resource.”
