Runners determined to have fun, enjoy wonderful coastal scenery and raise funds for charity are being invited to take part in the second annual Irvine Bay 10K Fun Run.
Irvine Bay Regeneration Company is backing the event, to take place at 10.30am on August 15th at Ardrossan, for the second year.
The event, the brainchild of well-known local runner Jim Montgomerie, seeks to build on the success of last year when around 120 hardy souls took part.
Jim, also known as The Running Kilt, began running marathons in 2003 in New York and has since taken part in a number of high profile runs in London, Brazil, the North Pole and even at The Great Wall of China.
But he reckons few places are more enjoyable than at Irvine Bay. He said: “It’s a real family day, It’s definitely for fun and to allow people to raise money for local, national and international charities, and it takes place entirely off-road with the beach and the sea right beside you all the way. It is a fantastic location for the event, and I am confident that we will better last year’s total and continue to build the success of the event.”
Stewards and supporters will be encouraging participants throughout the 10k and refreshments, t-shirts and medals will be waiting for everyone who crosses the finishing line.
Patrick Wiggins, chief executive of Irvine Bay Regeneration Company said: “We are delighted to be supporting Jim once again with what promises to be a fantastic event. We believe this event is great for the local area, encouraging community spirit and highlighting to people what a great place Irvine Bay is to live, work and visit. We would encourage people young and old to get involved and show their support.”
