Proposed North Shore development, Ardrossan – public get chance to learn more

Local people and businesses in Ardrossan have the chance to learn more about a major regeneration project that is set to transform the town.

Working on behalf of Ardrossan North Shore LLP, McInally Associates are currently preparing a planning application for residential and commercial units, a nursing home, road and coastal defence works at the former Shell site at Montgomerie Street/North Crescent Road, Ardrossan.

The joint development between Irvine Bay Regeneration Company and Peel Holdings, parent of Clydeport, will see a mixed-use development including offices, hotel, café and chandlery.

Highlights of the proposal include:

  • A total of 30 acres of former oil refinery land in the heart of the town cleaned up and redeveloped
  • More than 400 new homes created
  • 4000 square metres of offices created, along with a restaurant and a care home
  • The creation of new public open space
  • A first phase of over 200 new berths at the marina, with an eventual additional number of 500-600
  • Preserving the current North Shore beach

See more on the Ardrossan North Shore project page.

The ten-year programme would cost a total of around £9 million. The project would create the equivalent of 414 new jobs.

A public consultation is taking place on Monday, March 21st 2011 between 11am and 7pm in the Castle Craigs Lounge of Ardrossan Civic Centre in Glasgow Street, Ardrossan. This is an opportunity for the public to see the proposals, to feed in their own views, and to ask any questions of the team who will be on hand.

A spokesman for McInally Associates said: “We would like people to come along and give us their views before any planning application goes in. It is worth remembering that telling us what you think is not the same as making representations to the planning authority. Once the planning application is submitted, there will be an opportunity to make representations on the application directly to North Ayrshire Council.”
