A state-of-the-art play-park for youngsters has been officially opened in the Irvine Bay area.

Irvine Bay Regeneration Company supported the development of the new All Abilities Play Area at Eglinton Country Park, along with North Ayrshire Council, NHS Ayrshire and Arran and Surestart.

Children from Haysholm, James Reid, James McFarlane, Stanecastle, Annick, St Mark's and Stanley schools were the first to get a chance to play at the play-park on Tuesday.

The park has a wide range of features. A unique ‘music zone’ gives kids the chance to tap, rap, beat and bang on the wide array of colourful and exciting instruments like drums, eye chimes and the imbarimba – an African instrument mixing the traditional xylophone with the African thumb piano.

It also features two thrilling slides, an awesome aerial runway, a mega bouncy trampoline, and gives kids a stunning view from the top of the ‘crows nest’ climbing frame.

Situated in Eglinton Country Park’s beautiful countryside setting, the area has plenty of seating areas and picnic benches for a memorable family day out.

The play park has been designed for children of all abilities including children with disabilities and wheelchair-users too.

Patrick Wiggins, Chief Executive of Irvine Bay, said: “I am happy that we were able to support a project that brings everyone together in such a happy and positive way. The project has again demonstrated the strength of partnership working which is helping to transform Irvine Bay.”

The new facility was officially opened by Councillor Ian Clarkson, Depute Provost of North Ayrshire, who said: “The new park will enable children and young people of all abilities to explore a wide range of play opportunities together. Even parents will be able to enjoy the new facility.”

Cameron Sharp, Country Parks Manager for North Ayrshire Council, added: “There has been a considerable amount of time and effort put into bringing about this facility – which will be a wonderful addition to the park.”
