Trinity Church is a landmark A-listed building that occupies a prominent site within Irvine. Its development is a vital element in the regeneration of Irvine town centre and an important step in preserving the historic centre of the town of Irvine in Scotland.
Over many years the building had fallen into a severe state of disrepair. Now Irvine Bay Regeneration Company, in partnership with North Ayrshire Council and Trinity Church Trust, has undertaken to secure the building as a future development opportunity.
The current work began with the removal of a pigeon infestation and subsequent clean-up of the building in April 2009.
R & R Construction were selected as contractors. In the course of 2009 a new roof was put on the building and a comprehensive survey of the church spire carried out. This work was completed in February 2010. Watch a podcast of the survey.
As a result of the survey, North Ayrshire Council provided additional funding to carry out initial upgrade works to the spire. This work is also complete.
In February 2011 funding of £500,000 was received from the Historic Scotland Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme. This funding will allow a second phase of works to take place, including the comprehensive repair of the main church and hall, along with conservation work on the tower and spire.
The ongoing regeneration of the landmark building, has seen the removal of the Rose Window. A video podcast shows skilled craftsman at work, and the scale of the job.
Clark Contracts are currently undertaking some preliminary work, with the main redevelopment works expected to begin in summer 2012, running until spring of 2013.
We are working to secure other sources of funding, and marketing the development opportunity to potential end-users. With an initial phase of repair work already complete, further work is taking place during 2011/2012. With the right commercial interest the building could be fitted out and in use by 2013.
