Beach pavilion, Ardrossan

Ardrossan South Beach is to become the location for a beach pavilion, part of our coastal beacons strategy. Plans are developing to replace the existing toilet block area at Ardrossan South Beach to provide a new café/food-retail space and toilets.

Although this is not a large project, it is a significant one for the regeneration of the area, so we set up an architectural competition to encourage some innovative ideas for a building design that will reflect its physical setting, the requirement for public services and the economic potential of the site.

We hope that this project, although modest in scale, will generate significant publicity, highlighting this beautiful seafront location as well as the vigour and inventiveness of Scottish contemporary architecture.

A temporary beach hut was created on the site during summer 2010, the result of an education project.
