Irvine Bay has bought the car park site on the south side of the marina from Clydeport. The project is part of the wider plan to develop Ardrossan North Shore, including the extension of the already successful marina.
The proposal is for contemporary office accomodation and a hotel, with possibilities for a small cafe and chandlery. There will also be public car parking and the existing boat park will be relocated, proving an interesting feature for the area.
Austin-Smith: Lord have been appointed as architects and are working on designs for the mixed use development. A planning application was submitted early in 2011 and is ongoing.
A number of companies have indicated an interest in the accommodation, with further work taking place to establish which elements will be included in phase 1. Marketing to hotel operators and developers is continuing.
In the meantime, the yacht park has been relocated to make way for the new development. Yachts that are out of the water, some of them for sale, are now sitting on a prominent site by the roundabout.
Ultimately the proposed development will form part of the continuing redevelopment of Ardrossan North Shore and the expansion of the marina, creating new jobs and providing commercial opportunities which will benefit the local community.
