'i live', Irvine Royal & Auchenharvie Academies

Irvine Bay’s ‘i live’ theme was the context for learning for young people at Irvine Royal Academy and Auchenharvie Academy in an inter-disciplinary project, with a range of cross-curricular work based on this theme.

The main aspect of the project was a challenge set by RobertRyan Homes, a local construction business, for the pupils to consider the environment and design modern, social housing for the Irvine Bay area.  Young people got involved in designing homes for the future, developing their own ideas for housing, while exploring many different areas of the curriculum.

Young people presented their ideas to a panel of experts, including Billy Kirkwood of RyanHomes, business partners, the Council and the local community. The potential to exhibit this work for community viewing will be explored.

As part of the 'tomorrow's homes today' project pupils from both schools were invited to visit Halkshill House in June 2010, a new housing development by RobertRyan homes in Largs.

The project involved using skills in language, expressive arts, technology, health and wellbeing, social studies, science and maths.
