Big on the Beach is a summer festival of fun, creativity and activity for young people. The family event at Ardrossan South Beach has become a highlight in the August calendar, having run in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
Big on the Beach happened this year 4 - 6 August 2011. More details of this year's Big on the Beach available here.
Irvine Bay Regeneration Company funded the 2011 event, the biggest and best yet. The event was also the focus for our launch onto Facebook.
Irvine Bay strongly believe that the coast is our main asset and that improvements to the seafront and investment in related activities can re-ignite local regeneration opportunities and take advantage of the new emerging day-visitor and short-stay markets. Other summer events included a programme of Coastal ranger summer events.
A key feature of our commitment to our coast and community is our Big on the Beach event. This community festival of fun and creativity is supported and delivered by local partners and community groups. It provides a wide range of events and activities including arts, sports, dance, music, media and lifestyle opportunities.
Patrick Wiggins, Chief Executive of Irvine Bay Regeneration Company:
“The Council and Young Scot put on a fantastic range of activities, which we were delighted to fund. Regeneration is about more than improving the physical infrastructure of an area, it is about engaging with and enthusing the people who live in that area. This event promotes Irvine Bay as a fantastic area in which to live and to play, and we are happy to see so many young people enjoying themselves.”
