Kilwinning dig, work experience
Senior pupils from Kilwinning Academy gained work experience with Rathmell Archaeology as part of an archaeology project based at Kilwinning Abbey. Work experience involved 5 weeks of work during August and September 2010/11 as part of the Kilwinning Community Archaeology Project and covered practical aspects of digging as well as archiving, filing, researching and gathering evidence.

- This Irvine Bay education project supported the NAC Work Experience strategy
- The experience was invaluable to those students considering careers linked to this theme
- The opportunity enhanced the CV’s of those pupils taking part
Project aims
- To introduce young people to what is happening through the regeneration of their area
- To provide a business partner and link with work in a real context to enhance learning
- To encourage young people to think about business and community possibilities and build skills for life, work and learning
- To raise awareness of employability options in the area
- To provide invaluable work experience to enhance CVs
As a separate project, pupils from P7 in Corsehill Primary School got involved by becoming Junior Tour Guides, leading school groups on guided tours of the Abbey ruins.
