Project status: In development

Stevenston community art

Pupils from Auchenharvie Academy and Ardeer, St John's and Glencairn Primaries are getting involved in a project which will create a new piece of public art for Stevenston.

The new Grange Business Centre in Stevenston has created an opportunity to engage with local young people on the future of their town. The new artwork will build on this, and will be the expression of the creativity of local young people, guided by a local artist,

The art piece will be located in the central garden area at Stevenston Cross. It will symbolise the business future of Stevenston, and also the industrial legacy of the towns’ industrial heritage.

About the project

The project will involve working with artist, Heather Gray, to develop a design for a piece of public art.

  • Young people from local schools and community groups will get involved in the project to produce a piece of art, a model or picture etc which is symbolic of Stevenston's industrial heritage and economic future.
  • The artwork will form the basis of an exhibition of work at the Grange Business Centre in June 2012. This creative input will then be developed by the artist and possibly a local group or senior pupils from Auchenharvie Academy to create the final art piece.
  • The final art piece should be ready for installation in October 2012.

External funding has already been secured for this project from Awards for All.
