The third theme acknowledges the sea and coast as the area's greatest asset.

Already we have seen changes taking place at Ardrossan harbour where the historic and recently derelict Pumphouse has been redeveloped into a restaurant to sit amidst recent and planned new housing around the thriving marina and excellent harbourside public spaces.

Quality hotels, leisure facilities and coastal paths and walkways will give local residents and visitors further opportunities to enjoy the coastline.

The coastal park framework explores the opportunities along the coast in more detail. Along with the plans to create coastal beacons, this represents an important aspect of the regeneration of Irvine Bay.

Links golf courses feature along the coast already, and plans to create The Ayrshire, a championship level golf course on the edge of Irvine are already well advanced.
