Creating new job opportunities is a clear priority in the regeneration of Irvine Bay.
The area around Irvine Bay lost 35% of its manufacturing jobs in the five years to 2003. This resulted in some 40% of its industrial space now lying empty.
Now, major new developments will create job opportunities, with new and refurbished commercial accommodation attracting new businesses into the area.
An example is the major development at Ardrossan North Shore which is expected to create around 400 new jobs.
i3 is another example. Working with Scottish Enterprise, we are currently developing the former Riverside Business Park in Irvine to create south-west Scotland's top innovation and industrial investment location.
Other, smaller scale initiatives or already creating opportunities for businesses to flourish. For example, The Grange business centre in Stevenston opened in November 2011, immediately creating 12 new jobs, with more expected.
